A New Dosage Regimen for Topical Application of Ciprofloxacin in the Management of Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media

“…In the present study the clinical cure rates of patients who received topical ciprofloxacin at the concentrations of 250 and 125 mg/ml were 78.1% and 83.3%, respectively, on the fourteenth day of treatment. These results seem to be in accordance with the results of Esposito et al 9,10 Nevertheless, in about 20% of our patients it was necessary to continue the therapy for 21 days to obtain clinical cure and bacterial eradication. Because it was estimated that half of the activity of ciprofloxacin was lost in 21 days, in no patient did the optimal duration of therapy exceed 21 days.…”
