Topical anti-inflammatory activity of semisolid containing standardized Aleurites moluccana L. Willd (Euphorbiaceae) leaves extract

Abstract: This study demonstrated for the first time the mechanisms involved in the topical anti-inflammatory effect presented by the semisolid containing A. moluccana dried extract pointing as the main mechanism is the reduction in the leukocyte migration and consequently resulting in diminished levels of cytokins and chemokines, indicating this herbal product as a promissor anti-inflammatory phytomedicine to treat skin inflammatory diseases.

“…Anti-quorum-sensing activity has been reported from the leaf extracts against Chromobacterium violaceum (Guzman and Padilla 2017). Dried leaf extracts are anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and heal wounds in mice (Cesca et al 2012;Hoepers et al 2015;Niazi et al 2010). Antinociceptive activities are attributed to the flavonoid contents of the leaves (Quintão et al 2011).…”

The leafs of the plant Aleurites moluccana (AM) has been used to treat gastritis, fever, pain, diarrhea, asthma, and inflammation [ 4 , 5 ] showing antibacterial [ 6 ] and antiviral effects [ 7 ]. AM’s bark dichloromethane extract contains acetyl aleuritolic acid, atraric acid, spruceanol, (5β,10α)-12-hydroxy-13-methoxy-8,11,13-podocarpatrien-3-one and sonderianol [ 8 ].…”
