Abstract: Hotels are among the most energy intensive tourism facilities. To monitor and control the monthly and yearly energy consumption in hotels, different indicators have been proposed. These indicators, developed on yearly or annual basis, do not permit rapid detection and mitigation of malpractices and overconsumptions in hotel facilities. Moreover, these indicators do not consider the influence of physical parameters such as outdoor temperature, or, when they do, rather complex coefficients are used, precluding i… Show more

“…An EM methodology is a systematic approach for continuous improvement of the energy performance, providing an institutional framework to manage energy consumption and to identify saving opportunities (Worrel, 2011). In companies without a clear energy policy, the development of energy efficiency projects and the implementation of EM strategies and tools proved effective to identify and realize energy saving opportunities (Goldberg et al, 2011;Cabello et al, 2016).…”

“…Based on the EnPI, which is calculated for each formation process in the database, an energy baseline (EnB) is developed for each formation circuit. Using both the EnPI and the EnB is possible to assess the realtime inefficiencies, thus allowing to implement rapid corrective actions toward higher efficiency standards (Cabello et al, 2016).…”

“…room degree-day (RDD), energy performance indicators (EnPI), energy baselines (EnB) and control graphics), to forecast and control the electricity consumption in hotels A and B, by highlighting their main sources of inefficiencies. Originally, the dataset [1] considered data from 2011 to 2012 to develop the EnBs and EnPIs used. This data was updated up to 2015 to show the evolution of the electricity management system and the control tools over time.…”
