Tombusviridae

Abstract: The Tombusviridae is a relatively large and diverse family of plant viruses that have small single‐stranded, positive‐sense, RNA (ribonucleic acid) genomes which have been grouped together owing to the high degree of sequence identity displayed by their RNA ‐dependent RNA polymerases. Tombusvirid virion structures, gene expression strategies, replication, RNA recombination… Show more

“…We identified a high diversity and abundance of novel Tombusviridae, a family of single-strand positive-sense RNA viruses that infect plants (Sit and Lommel 2015). Of the viruses identified 18 fell into the subfamily Procedovirinae , found in all land-use types.…”

“…As stated previously (Pérez-Cañamás and Hernández 2015), the NoLS-containing region of p37 is also involved in other relevant properties of the protein such as the capacity to bind small RNAs, which is essential for its VSR function. In addition, it forms very likely part of the so-called RNA binding domain that has been proposed to directly interact with viral ssRNA for virion formation in related CPs (Sit and Lommel 2015;Rao et al 2006). These observations emphasize once more the high overlap of motifs involved in different functional traits of p37, as we stressed in a previous study (Pérez-Cañamás and Hernández 2015).…”
