TLRs in pulmonary diseases

Abstract: Toll-like receptors (TLRs) comprise a clan of proteins involved in identification and triggering a suitable response against pathogenic attacks. As lung is steadily exposed to multiple infectious agents, antigens and host-derived danger signals, the inhabiting stromal and myeloid cells of the lung express an aggregate of TLRs which perceive the endogenously derived damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) along with pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and trigger the TLR-associated signalling ev… Show more

“…The inflammatory response during sepsis is primarily mediated by the upregulation of the NF-ĸB pathway and the activation of the toll-like receptor (TLR) within the monocytes and macrophages [ 49 ]. Consistent with our findings, many researchers have identified miR-16 as a biomarker of sepsis as well as associated lung injury [ 50 , 51 , 52 ].…”

“…Another way is the inhibition of TLRs by specific antibodies. But, so far not enough research has been carried out on TLRs targeted therapeutic modalities in COVID-19 patients and studies are going on ( Arora et al, 2019 ). We have previously shown the role of TLR modulators in the prevention/treatment of viral diseases ( Pour et al, 2019 ).…”
