TLC-densitometric determination of bisoprolol, labetalol and propafenone, as dabsyl derivatives, in pharmaceutical preparations

Abstract: SummaryThis paper describes a TLC-densitometric procedure for identification and determination of bisoprolol, labetalol, and propafenone in pharmaceutical preparations. The compounds were derivatized with dabsyl chloride and chromatographed on silica gel by ascending development. The separation of the dabsylated drugs was followed by densitometric quantitation. The method was satisfactorily applied to pharmaceutical preparations. The RSD of quantitation was between 1.6 and 2.3 %.

“…Both LAB and PROP were analyzed alone as bulk drugs and in dosage forms [7,8]. Derivatization with absyl chloride was required to improve densitometric detection of BISO and LAB in their tablets [9]. Many other articles analyzed studied drugs successfully as native and in combination with other β-blocking agents [10,11] and with other cardiovascular agents [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19].…”

“…Literature survey reveals, many analytical methods such as HPLC [3,4], TLC-densitometry [5], fluorimetric determination [6], LC-MS [7], enantioanalysis human plasma [8] for estimation of BF in pharmaceutical formulation and biological fluids. Various analytical methods such as HPLC [9][10][11][12], differential pulse voltameter [13], stability indicating determination [14], photometric determination of HCTZ [15] were reported.…”

“…The following are examples of analyses that include the formation of derivatives prior to TLC: the formation of fluorescent dansyl derivatives for determination of biogenic amines in red wine (79) and other foods (80) and of colored thiocarbamoyl derivatives of biogenic amines (81); the use of /?-benzoquinone for derivatization of 2-(methylamino)ethanol and other primary and secondary amines (82); the separation of /?-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde from p-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde after derivatization with diphenylamine (83); determination of bisoprolol, labetalol, and propafenone as dabsyl derivatives in pharmaceutical preparations (84); and determination of the toxin fumonisin B-l in corn after immunoaffinity column cleanup and derivatization (85). In many cases, enantiomers have been resolved by TLC after the formation of derivatives, e.g., amino acids derivatized with l-fluoro-2,4-dinitrophenyl-5-L-alamne amide, and separated on RP plates (86).…”
