Tibial Spine Height Measured by Radiograph Is a Risk Factor for Non-Contact Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury in Males: A Retrospective Case-Control Study

Abstract: Various anatomic abnormalities are implicated in non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, but researchers rarely deal with the relation between tibial spine height and ACL injury. We conducted a retrospective case-control study to include 96 patients with and without non-contact ACL injuries. Tibial plateau width (TPW), medial and lateral tibial spine height (MTSH and LTSH), and tibial spine width (TSW) were measured by radiographs. The parameters were compared among subgroups. Binary regression mo… Show more

“…In fact, the finding of a taller TSH in association with ACL tears has recently been described in adolescent male patients. 12 The question then arises regarding how we should assess the risk for ACL ruptures in children aged 11 years. It seems that the older group of skeletally immature (near mature) patients had a relatively short and narrow notch that constrained the mobility of the ACL, but the younger group clearly did not have this same issue related to ACL ruptures.…”
