Abstract: This work addresses the surface properties and solubility parameters of sodium alginate (SA) using the inverse gas chromatography (IGC) technique. The dispersive component of the surface free energy,γS D, of the studied adsorbent surface was calculated in the infinite dilution region. The specific enthalpy of adsorption,ΔH S, the specific free energy of adsorption, ΔG S, and the specific entropy of adsorption, ΔS S, of solvents on SA were determined. The acidic K A and the basic K D parameters of the SA surfac… Show more

“…In the calculation of " # , Ugraskan et al [1] not only supposed the surface areas constant but there is probably a certain error committed by considering constant the value of the dispersive component $ # of the surface energy of organic molecules when the temperature changes. In fact, $ # also depends on the temperature.…”

“…In this paper, we propose to correct the surface properties determined by Ugraskan et al [1]. In fact, these authors had used the Schultz et al [20] and Dorris-Gray [21] methods, both, based on Fowkes relation [22].…”

“…The specific retention volume Vg0 is used instead of V N to eliminate the effect of quantity of the stationary phase and the effect of temperature, as described in the following equation 7,29 : Vg0=Q0.25emJ32()tRtA273.2/()Tfw, where w is the weight of the PMMA/MWCNT nanocomposite in the column.…”

“…In IGC, the column is filled with the solid material under probe, and vapor is injected into the column. IGC could be used to determine different properties of the immobile phase, such as acid–base characteristics, the glass transition temperature ( T g ), solubility parameters, polymer–polymer interaction parameters, surface area, crystallinity, and surface tension 7–11,19,20 …”
