Thermochromic and opacity behaviors in vanadium dioxide nanofilms: a theoretical study

Abstract: Vanadium dioxide nanofilms are one of the most essential materials in electronic applications like smart windows. Therefore, studying and understanding the optical properties of such films is crucial to modifying the parameters that control these properties. To this end, this work focuses on investigating the opacity as a function of the energy directed at the nanofilms with different thicknesses (1 – 100) nm. Effective mediator theories (EMTs), which are considered as the application of Bruggeman's formalism… Show more

“…[7] Smart windows have the characteristics of dynamic regulation of indoor solar radiation, which can effectively improve building energy efficiency. [8] Smart windows are categorized based on different stimuli, including heat, [9][10][11][12][13] electricity, [14][15][16][17][18][19][20] light, [21][22][23][24][25][26] and humidity. [27,28] Thermochromic smart windows are highly competitive among different response modes due to their unique features such as low cost, simple structure, passivity, and reasonable stimulus-response.…”
