“…Indeed, upon decomposition of BHMX in a solution, the acceleration practically disappears. [33,34] The rate constants of the BHMX decomposition in solution are close to the constants of the acceleration stage, and upon extrapolation to higher temperatures, they agree with the constants of the first decomposition step obtained using TGA [32] (Figure 7).…”

“…Previously published data on the kinetics of the leading combustion reaction of BHMX [26] were in poor agreement with its decomposition kinetics obtained at lower temperatures. Since the combustion of BHMX obeys the model with a leading reaction in the condensed phase, the obtained reliable activation energies under isothermal conditions (159-170 kJ mol À 1 [33,34] ) and the index in the combustion law (0.81) suggest that the heat of vaporization of BHMX is lower than that of HMX. The experimental BHMX surface temperatures are described by the equation lnp = À 11250/T + 17.37, which, in fact, gives a lower heat of evaporation (93.3 kJ mol À 1 ) than that of HMX (117.1 kJ mol À 1 ), [3d] but the measurement error is quite significant (it is 12 kJ mol À 1 ).…”

“…In fact, there should be some discrepancies for the activation energies obtained under different experimental conditions. By using Russian Manometric Method, the activation energy for BCHMX decomposition under isothermal conditions was found to be 210 kJ mol −1 [51], while it was 163.4 kJ mol −1 under vacuum [52]. Further discussions regarding the effects of polymer matrices on the activation energy and physical model of BCHMX decomposition are made in the following sections.…”
