The validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire

Abstract: The Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQR) attempts to address the limitations of the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ). As there is no Turkish version of the FIQR available, we aimed to investigate the validity and reliability of a Turkish translation of the FIQR in Turkish female fibromyalgia (FM) patients. After translating the FIQR into Turkish, it was administered to 87 female patients with FM. All of the patients filled out the questionnaire together with a Turkish version of the FIQ, hos… Show more

“…These values are consistent with those obtained by Srifi and collaborators [10] (65, SD: 14.5 for the first visit, and 63.2, SD: 16.6 for the second visit), and are slightly higher than those published by Ediz and his colleagues [9] (55.22, SD: 21.96 and 57.16, SD: 22.48, respectively).…”

“…Construct validity was evaluated with Pearson’s r correlation coefficients correlating the FIQR total score with the former FIQ, the HADS, and the BPI for convergent validity, and with the SF-36 for divergent validity. Guided by previous research on FIQR validations [9,10] we expected to find internal consistency values (Cronbach’s α) ≥ 0.80, test-retest reliability values (ICC) ≥ 0.70, and convergent and divergent validity values showing at least moderate to important correlations between the FIQR and the target scales (Pearson’s r values in the range of 0.40 to 0.70). Given these values we estimated that sample sizes in the range of 20 to 60 subjects would be sufficient to estimate correlations between 0.40 and 0.70 assuming a 5% as significance level and 90% power.…”

“…HCs completed the Symptom Impact Questionnaire, which is the same as the FIQR but replaces the word "fibromyalgia" with the word "health" [20]. The FIQR has been shown to have construct validity, good test-retest reliability, content relevance and sensitivity to change for improvement and decline of health status [21]. Total FIQR scores range from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating a greater negative impact of FM.…”

“…Physical functioning, work status, depression, anxiety, morning tiredness, stiffness, pain, fatigue, and well-being over the past week were measured [11]. Its adaptation, reliability, and validity studies were performed by Ediz et al [12] for Turkey.…”
