Abstract: This paper reviews analytical methods, instrumental developments and applications for derivatization of primary amines with naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde using fluorescence and chemiluminescence detection with capillary electrophoresis (CE) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The use of lasers as well as lamps as the excitation source for fluorescence detection is discussed. The detection limit observed with naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde derivatization is often lower and better than those … Show more

“…In addition, we note that LED or solid lasers are gradually replacing the conventional gas lasers for CE/LIF which are expensive and large. LIF detection is still the most commonly used detection technique for AA analysis and NDA is an extremely popular dye [95] requiring LIF detection at 410 nm.…”

“…The reagent was recently reviewed [48] but significant progress in chiral amino acid bioanalytical methods development by HPLC is lacking. NDA reacts with primary amines in the presence of NaCN to form highly fluorescent cyanobenz[f]isoindole (CBI-) derivatives.…”

“…Recently, Rammouz et al [18] have given an in-depth review on the use of NDA for the analysis of primary amines in HPLC and CE. Also OPA [19][20][21] and NDA [22][23][24][25] have been demonstrated to be selective reagents for the detection of GSH, since GSH containing both primary amine and thiol moieties, could react with OPA and NDA without the presence of any other additional nucleophile.…”
