The use of artificial compressibility to improve partitioned semi-implicit FSI coupling within the classical Chorin–Témam projection framework

Abstract: Over the last decade the classical Chorin-Témam projection method has been utilized to address fluid-structure interaction in a semi-implicit manner. In previous studies the fluid projection step is fully coupled with the structural motion due to the divergence-free constraint. A set of simultaneous equations thus have to be iteratively solved. To overcome this difficulty, a simple and accurate partitioned semi-implicit coupling method is proposed based on the artificial compressibility (AC) in this paper. The… Show more

“…The mesh deformation method adopts a blend of moving submesh approach (MSA) and the ortho‐semitorsional spring analogy method . This approach is able to considerably augment the efficiency of updating ALE mesh, in comparison with the spring analogy method . The fully discrete model of the FSI system comprises a set of coupled nonlinear equations to be solved in a partitioned way .…”

“…In comparison with the OST spring analogy method, the 2-level approach is capable of remarkably depressing the time consumption of mesh updating while preserving the grid topology. 21 Interested readers can consult our previous works 12, 14 for more details.…”
