The underestimated extent of post-concussion syndrome (Espectro subestimado del síndrome postconmocional)

Abstract: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can result in impairments that are not perceivable on a clinical neurological level, causing a diagnostic limbo that underestimates this condition, as certain imaging techniques are unable to identify structural alterations. In order to identify dysfunctions that require a specific rehabilitation plan, it is particularly important that we consider post-concussion syndrome (PCS) an entity that requires diagnostic recognition through sensitive methods. New functional imaging strategi… Show more

“…This first part of the issue dedicated to research in neurorehabilitation continues with a series of theoretical review articles, dealing with the most pertinent and innovative treatment techniques in cognitive, emotional and behavioural disorders derived from brain damage. The authors Serrano-Navarro et al (2022) reviewed cases of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in which, despite not detecting structural alterations through neuroimaging studies, patients did present neuropsychological deficits. The objective of their study is of particular relevance, given that the authors provide an updated list of specific neuropsychological tests, neurophysiological studies and peripheral biological markers that offer early detection of cognitive alterations and can help to achieve a comprehensive rehabilitation of the patient.…”
