The submillimeter spectrum of deuterated glycolaldehydes

Abstract: Context. Glycolaldehyde, a sugar-related interstellar prebiotic molecule, has recently been detected in two star-forming regions, Sgr B2(N) and G31.41+0.31. The detection of this new species increased the list of complex organic molecules detected in the interstellar medium (ISM) and adds another level to the chemical complexity present in space. Besides, this kind of organic molecule is important because it is directly linked to the origin of life. For many years, astronomers have been struggling to understan… Show more

“…Similar to the approach above we generate synthetic spectra and match those with the lines predicted to be the brightest in the spectra. The spectroscopy for the isotopologues is available through the CDMS database: for the two 13 C-isotopologues of glycolaldehyde, 13 CH 2 OHCHO and CH 2 OH 13 CHO, the data are based on measurements by Haykal et al (2013), while those for the three deuterated isotopologues, CHDOHCHO, CH 2 ODCHO and CH 2 OHCDO, are based on Bouchez et al (2012). The partition function for the isotopologues listed by the CDMS do not include the corrections for the vibrational contributions.…”

“…Moreover, as we show below, the previous assignment of one of the 13 C species is most probably erroneous and could not be used for astrophysical observations. The deuterated isotopologs of glycolaldehyde have recently been studied in the millimeter-wave region (150−630 GHz) by Bouchez et al (2012). This spectroscopic study was motivated by a future comparison of the D/H ratios for better understanding the formation of glycolaldehyde in hot cores and hot corinos.…”

“…This paper is a continuation of a series of studies conducted in PhLAM Lille (France) that are devoted to the investigations of the spectra of different isotopic species of astrophysical molecules (Demyk et al 2007;Margulès et al 2009aMargulès et al ,b, 2010Carvajal et al 2009;Tercero et al 2012;Bouchez et al 2012;Coudert et al 2012Coudert et al , 2013Richard et al 2012Richard et al , 2013Haykal et al 2013;Kutsenko et al 2013;Nguyen et al 2013). In particular, these works led to the first interstellar detection of HCOOCH 2 D (Coudert et al 2013), HCOO 13 CH 3 (Carvajal et al 2009), HCO 18 OCH 3 , HC 18 OOCH 3 (Tercero et al 2012), and CH 2 DOCH 3 (Richard et al 2013).…”
