Abstract: The invention of Johann Gutenberg's movable type is generally referred to as a printing revolution. It quickened the spread of literacy in Renaissance Europe and contributed to the Reformation. Printing stands at the forefront of vari ous revolutionary developments, both in a political and a socio-cultural sense.
