“…Nevertheless, MR imaging with the new surface coil shows a higher accuracy than other available imaging techniques. 27 In our experience it is not possible to detect or exclude a dispersed vitreous seeding of retinoblastoma by high resolution MRI scans. A dense infiltration of the vitreous by tumour cells, sometimes seen in advanved cases with endophytic tumour growth, might be detectable by MR images even with techniques with a lower spatial resolution.…”

“…MR imaging is frequently used to assess retinoblastoma tumor extent and has room for improvement despite good overall performance. 4 In the authors' experience, and according to de Potter et al, 15 uveal melanoma can be indistinguishable from metastasis, and retinoblastoma can be indistinguishable from medulloepithelioma. Despite classically described MR imaging findings that differentiate retinoblastoma from Coat disease, there continue to be occasional cases in which these lesions are indistinguishable despite an exhaustive diagnostic work-up, as reported in the literature and also in the authors' experience.…”

“…When the intraocular mass was examined by CT scan and MRl, with and without Gd enhancement, it appeared hyperintense in contrast to the vitreous in the T,-weighted image and hypointcnse in the T2-weighted image and also showed enhancement. The MRI disclosed an image similar to that of malignant uveal melanoma [23], but demonstrated no specific features. The MRl was useful to charcterize the in traocular mass, but it could not differentiate PIL from other intraocular tumors.…”
