Abstract: This paper is about egocentrism and its relationship to certain socialization variables. The 219 subjects in grades I through 5 were from two rural communities in southern Illinois. It was expected that the study would support Piaget's theory on egocentrism. The most significant results were the high correlations of egocentrism scores, of sociometric scores, and of teachers' ratings of popularity with observed playground behaviors.
