The relationship between the first trimester maternal serum PAPP-A and β-hCG values and newborn intensive care needs in low-risk pregnancies

Abstract: Objective: The purpose of the study was to look at the connection between newborn intensive care requirements in low-risk pregnancies and maternal blood pregnancy-associated plasma protein (PAPP-A) and free human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels, which are elements of screening tests within the first trimester. Materials and Methods: In the delivery unit of our hospital, pregnant women between the years of 18 and 35 had singleton pregnancies who delivered between 37 … Show more

“…The study did not show a statistically significant difference in fbHCG levels (median 1.05 ± 0.46 for NICU newborns vs. 1.11 ± 0.49 for the control group, p = 0.134). However, a lower fbHCG MoM median value was noted in children born with an Apgar score < 7 in the first minute of life (0.89 ± 0.23 vs. 1.1 ± 0.49, p < 0.05), confirming a correlation between poorer clinical status and lower biochemical parameters in the first trimester [10].…”
