The results of PISA (Program of International Student Assessment) revealed that Indonesia students still have a low literacy level. This research aimed at investigating the implementation of Primary English Literacy activities at elementary school and finding out the effect of the activities toward the students' language competency in English. This quasi-experimental design was implemented at a primary school in Singaraja, Bali. The data were collected using English tests and supported with observation. The implementation of literacy activities was applied in three stages: 1) the introduction stage; 2) the implementation stage; and 3) the establishment stage. All of the stages gave a good impact on the students' attitude and the students' language competence. The result of the paired ttest showed that the primary literacy activities gave a significant effect on the students' language competence. It implied that the literacy activities are suitable to be used for teaching English at primary school.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of lessons trained through large group discussion method in a classroom environment during 10-15 min at the end of silent book reading activity for the first thirty minutes during a term upon attitudes of students towards learning and reading habit. The research was carried out with totally 89 students including 58 males and 31 females having Effective Communication lesson and studying in the 3rd grade of Adiyaman University, Faculty of Education and Elementary Education Social Sciences Department. For the analysis of obtained data, SPSS 20.00 package program was used. As result of data analysis, it was concluded that Book Reading Method (BRM) positively affected attitudes of students towards learning and reading habit.

The school environment is also an inhibiting factor for students. For example, the way the lesson is presented is not good. In addition, there are still many parents who ignore the education of their students. This has an impact on students' low English skills. This study aims to analyze family and school conditions on students' English achievement. This research is a correlational study. The research subjects were all students of the class with 24 students. The method used to collect data is observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The instrument used in data collection is a questionnaire. The technique used to analyze the data is descriptive qualitative statistics, and quantitative. The study results are that family conditions have a positive effect on learning achievement in learning English. This shows that when family conditions improve, student achievement will also increase. Partial test (t-test) obtained t count variable influence of family conditions = 6.607 so that Ha X1 against Y is accepted. Variable influence of school conditions t count = 3.019 so that Ha X2 to Y is accepted. The practical contribution of family conditions is 21.316%, school conditions are 39.678%. The key is that there is a simultaneous influence of family and school conditions on learning English subjects.
