“…The other eye with a negative test result of only 38% concerned a metastatic tumour of a mammary carcinoma that contained a large amount of connective tissue. The negative test result of the 5 other retinoblastomas (Terner et al, 1956) cannot be explained, but it is conceivable that the necrotic areas frequently observed in this type of tumour (Hogan & Zimmerman, 1962) may have contributed. The negative result obtained in 5 of these eyes was probably caused by the localization of the tumours in the posterior pole, which is inaccessible with the anterior approach used in these eyes (Thomas et al, 1965).…”

Thomas et al (31,32), D u n p h y et al (6), P a 1 i n and T u d w a y (21), and T e r n e r et al (30), used P 32 for the diagnosis of intraocular tumours. The method they used was based on comparing the P 32 uptake of the tumour either with that of adjacent normal tissue, or with that of the opposite normal organ, e. g. eye, breast, testis etc.…”
