Background: Death depression is one of the components of death-related distress, characterized by a form of sadness related to the individual's death, other people's death, and/or the concept of death in general. Objectives: The current research aimed to investigate death obsession, death anxiety, and depression as predictors of death depression among married nurses in Iran. Methods: The sample consisted of 146 married female nurses from different wards of governmental hospitals, as well as Mehr and Arya private hospitals, affiliated to Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. The participants responded to the death depression scale-revised (DDS-R), death anxiety scale, death obsession scale, as well as the short-form of Beck depression inventory (BDI-13). Results: The findings indicated that death obsession, depression, and particularly death anxiety (β, 0.47), were predictors of death depression. The three predictive variables could explain 0.62 of variance in death depression. Conclusions: Different factors can affect death depression, including obsessions and anxieties related to death. Therefore, these concerns should be reduced dramatically in hospital settings, as stressful environments.

In this study the factor structure of the Death Obsession Scale (DOS) was examined using confirmatory factor analysis. Data used consisted of DOS reports of 32 8 Black African students. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that two-and threefactor models obtained among female and male African students, respectively, provided the best fit to the data. The two factors in female African students were Death Rumination and Apprehension, and the three factors of their male counterparts were Death Ruminations, Apprehension, and Comprehensibility of Death. Factor intercorrelations did not resolve the dimensionality issue of the measure, leading to the conclusion that the factors must be investigated further.

Religiosity Orientations and Personality Traits with Death Obsession

The aim of the current study was to investigate the relationship and predictability of death obsession through religiosity orientations and personality traits. Sample included 484 (246 girls, 238boys) that had been chosen through random stratified sampling. In order to assess research instrument was death obsession scale (DOS), NEO personality inventory (NEO-FFI) and Allport religious orientation scale. Data were analyzed using correlation and stepwise regression analyses method and t-test.Results showed that the relationship between death obsessions with extrinsic orientation toward religion is positive whereas death obsession has a negative relation with intrinsic orientation toward religion. Also findings showed there is significant positive relationship between neuroticism and death obsession (r=0/42, p<0/01). Other dimensions at personality had negative relationship with death obsession. The greater negative relationship was between intrinsic orientation toward religion and conscientiousness dimension (r=-0/34, p<0/01). Of all research variables, extrinsic orientation toward religion and neuroticism was able to predict 19 present of variance of death obsession. In study of difference between two group female and male in death obsession results showed that significant difference between two groups (t=5/38, df=482, p<0/001).
