Abstract: PURPOSE:To investigate the protective effect of β-myrcene (MYR) on oxidative and histological damage in mice heart tissue caused global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (IR) in C57BL/J6 mice. METHODS:Animals(n=40) were randomly divided into four groups: (1)control, (2)IR, (3)MYR and (4)MYR+IR. The control group was received 0.1% carboxymethyl cellulose as a vehicle following a medial incision without carotid occlusion. In the IR group, the bilateral carotid arteries were clipped for 15min, and treated with the ve… Show more

“…For Myrcene at least, engineered production at scale in bacteria may be possible [97]. It will also be important to assess the side effect and adverse effect profile of Myrcene [98][99][100][101][102] and to assign its documented effects in pain and other potential indications (ischemia/reperfusion injury [103], osteoarthritis [104], peptic ulcer [105], anti-oxidant [106]) to TRPV1 or other possible receptors. In this regard, network pharmacological analysis may be of assistance (see Supplemental Table III).…”

“…The anticarcinogenic properties of limonene were associated with gene expression alterations in apoptosis, signal transduction, DNA damage repair, and cell cycle regulation pathways [ 51 ]. Again, both antioxidative and antiproliferative potentials of pinene [ 52 , 53 ], myrcene [ 54 , 55 ], and 1,8-cineol [ 56 , 57 ] were reported by different researchers.…”

“…This volatile monoterpene showed potent antioxidant activity in the research of Ciftci et al [ 22 ]. Additionally, β-myrcene can be used for osteoarthritis treatment [ 23 ] and as an alternative treatment after ischemic stroke [ 24 ]. Limonene is also an outstanding monoterpene, which can be easily perceived by its citrusy smell.…”

“…Although there is no research on the relationship between nootkatone and ischaemic brain injury, there is evidence that it plays a neuroprotective role in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease through inhibition of the TLR4/NF-jB/NLRP3 pathway and reducing the inflammatory response (Qi et al 2019). Furthermore, Burcu et al (2016) confirmed that b-myrcene had neuroprotective effects on oxidative and neuronal injury mediated by global CA/reperfusion in C57BL/J6 mice and a-pinene also had been shown that antioxidant enzymes activity in ischaemic nerve injury (Khoshnazar et al 2019). In this study, PPO showed a neuroprotective effect against CIRI.…”

“…Moreover, β-myrcene cloud be used to prevent cardiac tissue from ischemic stroke. It demonstrated inhibition of oxidative radical formations and protected ischemia reperfusion injury causing heart tissue damage (Burcu, Osman, Aslı, Namik, & Neşe, 2016). Nejad, Özgüneş, & Başaran (2017) reported that eugenol has been used in medicine as antiseptic and anesthetic.…”
