Abstract: -In this work, fossil assemblages of coccolithophorids, oxygen stable isotopes (Globigerinoides ruber), and radiocarbon dating were used as proxies. The sediment core, obtained on the slope of Campos Basin, was analyzed, comprising the last 130 kyr. The results show that placolith-bearing taxa, such as Gephyrocapsa spp. and Emiliania huxleyi, as well as Florisphaera profunda, which inhabits the lower photic zone, dominated the assemblage during the whole study interval. Over the past 130 kyr, there was a relat… Show more

“…It may seem that during MIS 11 and 10 coccolith numbers was relatively high in comparison with samples below the peak between 420-410 kyr and of MIS 9. In fact, it was higher than the coccolith numbers found by Leonhardt et al (2013) in the same area for the last 130 ka. However, the MBE is characterized by a rise in the carbonate accumulation.…”

“…This has confirmed the important role of major reorganization of Atlantic thermohaline circulation in abrupt climate change (Mahiques et al 2005(Mahiques et al , 2007Toledo et al 2007aToledo et al , 2008Nagai et al 2010;Pivel et al 2010Pivel et al , 2013Leonhardt et al 2013;Mendoza et al 2014;Chapori et al 2015). For the southwestern Atlantic, study of planktonic foraminiferal records has suggested that productivity was higher during deglaciation than in the last glacial maximum (LGM) and the Holocene (Toledo et al 2007b), although other studies have shown that productivity peaked during the LGM and the Younger Dryas in the same region (Mahiques et al 2007;Toledo et al 2008).…”

“…South Atlantic Ocean circulation is dominated by the Subtropical Gyre and by the Equatorial and Circumpolar Current systems forced by the atmospheric system (Leonhardt et al 2013). The Brazil Current (BC) is a western boundary current that flows along the Brazilian coast carrying warm subtropical waters to the south.…”
