Objective: To identify the evidence available in the literature about the risk factors for type II Diabetes Mellitus. Method:There was an integrative review of the literature in the following databases: PubMed, LILACS, SciELO and Scopus, using the descriptors type II diabetes mellitus and factors of risk in Portuguese and English. The research returned 504 articles from 2006 to 2016. After inclusion and exclusion criteria, one obtained 14 studies, which compose the study sample. Results:Of the studies included in the review, 21.4% were in 2011 and 2015. Regarding the method, 57.0%, were cross-sectional studies. The prevalent Qualis was the category A. In all studies, there were factors of risk for T2DM. Conclusion:By analyzing the studies, it was possible to identify a wide range of factors of risk found in the literature, showing what can favor the development of the disease and the possible means to build preventive and promotional strategies for groups prone to develop that problem.

RESUMENObjetivo: Caracterizar el perfi l de usuarios en riesgo de desarrollar diabetes mellitus tipo 2 de acuerdo con las variables sociodemográfi cas y clínicas. Método: Estudio transversal, descriptivo, de abordaje cuantitativo realizado con 266 usuarios de la Atención Básica. Análisis estadístico inferencial, con el cálculo de las razones de prevalencias brutas con intervalo de confi anza del 95% y la prueba de Kruskal-Wallis, y la aplicación de la técnica multivariada Análisis de Correspondencia simple. Resultados: Se constató que el 83,1% eran mujeres y el 36,4% frecuentaban la Unidad de Salud de la Familia de 1 a 5 años. Sobre los factores asociados a la diabetes mellitus tipo 2, el 66,5% de los usuarios estaba con sobrepeso; el 77,9% fue clasifi cado con obesidad central; la gran mayoría, el 77,4% no practicaba actividad física y el 21,1% tenía la glucemia alterada.Characterization of users at risk of developing diabetes: a cross-sectional study

To examine the associations between atypical antipsychotic (AAP) exposure and the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Korean pediatric patients with psychiatric disorders, we conducted a nested case-control study using the claims data of the National Health Insurance system of Korea between 2010 and 2014. A cohort of patients with psychiatric disorders was identified, and enrollment was taken as the date of the first psychiatric diagnosis. Cases involved patients with a diagnosis of T2DM or prescriptions for glucose lowering drugs after enrollment, and the identification of T2DM was defined as the index date. We performed a conditional logistic regression analysis for matched case-control data to assess associations between AAP exposure and T2DM, and adjusted odds ratios (aORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) are presented. From 1,092,019 patients aged 2-19 years, we identified 20,263 cases with T2DM and 80,043 controls, matched by sex, age, enrollment date, and primary psychiatric diagnosis. After adjusting for comorbidities, psychotropic medication history, and the healthcare institution characteristics, the aOR of having T2DM was significantly higher in multi-AAP users compared with non-users (aOR 1.89; 95% CI 1.63-2.20). Particularly high ORs for T2DM were observed in clozapine users compared with non-users (aOR 3.47; 95% CI 1.88-6.41). We observed a linear relationship between the increase in risperidone dose and the increase in the risk of developing T2DM. Our findings suggest a significantly increased risk of developing T2DM in child or adolescent patients with psychiatric disorders exposed to AAPs compared with those not exposed to AAPs.
