“…We were interested in the use of borohydride exchange resin (BER) in the laboratory and found that BER is a more convenient reducing agent than sodium borohydride itself. It reduces aldehydes selectively in the presence of ketones (2) and reduces carbonyl compounds selectively without affecting ester, amide, nitrile, carbon-carbon multiple bond, or sulfoxide functionalities (3). Moreover, since boron moieties stay on the resin, a simple filtration of resin gives essentially pure products in most cases."…”
