The pion-nucleon scattering lengths from pionic deuterium

Abstract: In the paper [1] we have studied the pion-deuteron scattering length within low-energy effective theories of QCD. In particular, in the section 4.3 of this article we give an estimate of the uncertainty in this scattering length, coming from the presence of the 6-particle low-energy constant (LEC) -referred to as f 0 . Unfortunately, in this estimate, which has yielded ∆a πd /a πd 12%, an incorrect value for the deuteron wave function at the origin in the Weinberg approachΦ 0 (Λ) = [0.487; 0.434 This result ha… Show more

“…To avoid the IR singularities in the integrals for Σ (n) (p, p ′ ), we introduce the IR cutoff κ everywhere in the denominators of the pionic propagators. Taking into account only the leading S-wave part of the deuteron wave function, one can perform all the angular integrations in (6), resulting in…”

“…Different aspects of the MSS in EFT formalisms have been refined in the next twenty years, see, e.g., [5]. Expression (1) for F πd in an EFT framework was first recreated in [6]. In our recent publication [7] we discussed from the point of view of an EFT the fact that, if the meson-nucleon scattering is approximated by the scattering length, the individual terms of the series are divergent and enhanced with respect to the straightforward expectation from the chiral perturbation theory (χPT).…”

“…It remains to investigate radiative corrections, which can be evaluated in the field-theoretical framework used here in a standard manner. The effects generated by the π + π − bound state at the π + π − threshold can also be investigated within the same approach [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27], see also Ref. [28].…”

“…At present, there exists a well established systematic procedure for extracting the values of the pertinent hadronic scattering amplitudes at threshold from these measurements, based on non-relativistic effective Lagrangians (see e.g. [1,[12][13][14][15][16][17]). Below we merely present the result for the kaonic hydrogen and kaonic deuterium without a derivation.…”

“…d) The kaon-deuteron scattering amplitude can be calculated in a standard manner, evaluating the six-point function KN N → KN N and extracting the double pole, corresponding to the initial and final deuterons (see, e.g. [17]). The multiple scattering series similar to that of Ref.…”
