“…Perhaps the fungal infection itself is responsible for disruption of the stratum corneum serving as the "first hit". This seems unlikely as previous research suggests that the stratum corneum barrier function remains intact despite dermatophytosis [22]. Alternatively an undiscovered "first hit" may permit fungal infection followed by sweat duct occlusion by staphylococcus biofilm leading to pruritus and inflammation.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…It is likely that the MyD88 and PAR2 pathways are activated in these conditions as well. Hydration is a major treatment modality for these diseases, with creams providing a barrier in lieu of the disrupted stratum corneum [15,16].…”

“…The cytotoxic effects of methotrexate have been previously studied by Rueckert and Mueller (1960) and O'Brien (1962). The conversion of deoxyuridylate to thymidylate (for incorporation into DNA) utilises methylenetetrahydrofolate, and the repletion of this pool of folate requires the production of tetrahydrofolic acid by dihydrofolic acid reductase (Fig.…”

“…Methotrexate irreversibly inhibits the reduction of dihydrofolic acid and thus depletes the cell store of tetrahydrofolic acid. This inhibits synthesis of DNA since methylation of deoxyuridylate to thymidylate no longer occurs (Osborn, Freeman and Huennekens, 1958;O'Brien, 1962). Since tetrahydrofolic acid is also converted (Fig.…”
