The Parker Flex-Tip™ tracheal tube makes endotracheal intubation with the Bullard laryngoscope easier and faster

Abstract: During intubation with the Bullard laryngoscope, use of the Parker Flex-Tip tube is associated with more rapid success and a lower incidence of re-direction of the Bullard laryngoscope during endotracheal intubation when compared to a standard endotracheal tube.

“…Previous studies have described easier and faster intubation with the Bullard laryngoscope and the Parker Flex-Tip tube [15], and greater intubation success, shorter intubation times, and reduced incidence of repositioning of the tube when the Parker Flex-Tip was used to facilitate oral fiberoptic intubation. [16,17].…”

“…TT tip touching was counted on the AWS monitor and the site that the TT tip touched was recorded on a clock face diagram, as in a previous study [8,9]. Additional points of interest were the time required for tracheal intubation and the rate of successful tracheal intubation.…”

“…However, the conventional TT tip often impinges on the glottis or other laryngeal structures when the TT is advanced from the AWS into the trachea [5].The Parker-tipped TT (Parker Flex-Tip tube; Parker Medical, Highlands Ranch, CO, USA) has a tapered fountain-pen-shaped tip [6][7][8]. In tracheal intubation with fi berscopes or Bullard laryngoscopes, the Parkertipped TT has been shown to have easier passage, without colliding with the glottis or other laryngeal structures, when compared to a conventional TT in patients with diffi cult airway [7,8].…”

“…The Parker Flex-Tip TM tracheal tube (Parker Medical, Highlands Ranch, CO, USA) has a special tip, that is designed to glide past obstructions and pass easily through the glottis (Fig. 1) [7][8][9]. However the Parker Flex-tip tracheal tube has never been studied in terms of nasal mucosal trauma.…”
