The Northern HIPASS catalogue - data presentation, completeness and reliability measures

Abstract: The Northern HIPASS catalogue (NHICAT) is the northern extension of the HIPASS catalogue, HICAT. This extension adds the sky area between the declination (Dec.) range of +2° < δ < +25°30′ to HICAT's Dec. range of −90° < δ < +2°. HIPASS is a blind H i survey using the Parkes Radio Telescope covering 71 per cent of the sky (including this northern extension) and a heliocentric velocity range of −1280 to 12 700 km s−1. The entire Virgo Cluster region has been observed in the Northern HIPASS. The galaxy catalogue,… Show more

“…We choose these sets of objects as examples of astrophysical scenarios worthy of examination. We have reported additional explorations (such as the correlation with galaxies in the HI Parkes All Sky Survey [34,35]) in [36].…”

“…The HIPASS (Barnes et al 2001) includes the complete Southern sky and the Northern sky up to +25.5 degrees in Declination. The Northern part of the survey is described in Wong et al (2006). This survey currently has the best available H i brightness sensitivity yet published.…”

“…The survey spans 11 degrees in Declination from −1 to +10 degrees and 135 degrees in Right Ascension between 8 and 17 h. This survey has a point source sensitivity of 16 mJy beam −1 over 16 km s −1 corresponding to a column density of N HI ∼ 3.5 × 10 16 cm −2 . A&A 528, A28 (2011) The second data product presented in Popping & Braun (2011b) is reprocessed data, using original data that has been observed for the H i Parkes All Sky Survey (Barnes et al 2001;Wong et al 2006). The 1500 square degree region overlapping the WVFS was reprocessed to permit comparison between these data products and detections.…”
