“…Slow growth rate and restricted availability of nutrients in the natural environment may be major contributors to phenotypic changes leading to the relative insusceptibility to drugs in vivo (2,3,20,23). This may not explain the fact that in the treatment of orofacial abscesses, a good response to antibiotic therapy may follow even when resistant pathogenic species are present (8).
