The MARS for Squat, Countermovement, and Standing Long Jump Performance Analyses

Abstract: Jump tests are often used to assess the effect of interventions because their outcomes are reported valid indicators of functional performance. In this study, we examined the reproducibility of performance parameters from 3 common jump tests obtained using the commercially available Kistler Measurement, Analysis and Reporting Software (MARS). On 2 separate days, 32 men performed 3 squat jumps (SJs), 3 countermovement jumps (CMJs), and 3 standing long jumps (LJs) on a Kistler force-plate. On both days, the perf… Show more

“…In future studies, researchers may seek to compare the kinematics of the LQ-YBT using the 2 hand positions to better understand the movement control of this task. Restricting upper limb motion during functional performance testing is believed to provide a more specific assessment of lower limb function, 15,30 whereas permitting upper limb motion is believed to be more natural and functional. 31,32 I cannot recommend using 1 protocol over another because the clinical aims need to be considered.…”

“…The absolute reliability and validity of measures were considered adequate when the corresponding CV values were equal to or lower than 10% (Hébert-Losier & Beaven, 2014;Holsgaard Larsen, Caserotti, Puggaard, & Aagaard, 2007;Stokes, 1985). All statistical analyses were performed using SigmaStat for Windows 3.5 (Systat Software Inc., San Jose, CA, USA) and Microsoft Excel 2010 (Microsoft Corp., Redmont, WA, USA) with a level of significance set at α ≤ 0.05.…”

“…In order to assess the reliability of data recorded from the MK2, a Kistler Type 9260AA force plate (KFP) was used as a research-grade comparison. The KFP uses piezoelectric force sensors to accurately measure any forces applied to the surface of the device [ 25 ]. The intention of this study was to assess seated balance using the KFP and the MK2.…”
