“…Instead, consumers often express a preference for eco‐friendly seafood (Jaffry, Pickering, Ghulam, Whitmarsh, & Wattage, ; Wessell, Johnston, & Donath, ), but tend to be reluctant to pay more when they go shopping (Jonell, Crona, Brown, Rönnbäck, & Troell, ) or prefer locally branded products (McClenachan, Dissanayake, & Chen, ). Furthermore, price premiums that have been realized have not generally been distributed to fishers (Bellchambers, Phillips, & Pérez‐Ramírez, ; Pérez‐Ramírez, Castrejón, Gutiérrez, & Defeo, ). This makes the link between consumer behavior and economic reward for more sustainable production practices tenuous.…”

“…This precautionary ERAEF method was developed by Hobday et al () and was disseminated by management and advisory bodies (Frédou et al, ) and by the Marine Stewardship Council for fishery certification all over the world (MSC, ). These certifications, however, are not a reality for Brazilian fisheries (MSC, ; Pérez‐Ramírez, Castrejón, Gutierrez, & Defeo, ), especially due to the lack of knowledge (stocks usually lack necessary data) and lack of investment in fisheries tracking and in the entire certification process (Frédou et al, ). In this study, the ERAEF method was applied with some adaptations, such as the inclusion of post‐harvest fisheries aspects, which can guide future regional multidisciplinary assessments and certifications.…”

“…A reported critique of the MSC programme is that it is not accessible to small-scale fisheries [33,34]. 12 articles (7%, included literature n = 6, excluded literature n = 8) focused explicitly on small-scale fisheries, which is lower than the proportion of MSC certified small-scale fisheries (17%).…”
