“…7 This was designed to be used during an open or direct view technique and was promoted as an advanced technique to remove fat from the platysma and subdermal area of the neck. 8 The concept of using a shaving instrument within a cannula was once again revisited by the Xomed Corporation (later acquired by Medtronic Corporation).…”

“…He developed the technique of “liposhaving” in which a rotating inner blade within a cannula was used to sharply dissect fat cells 7 . This was designed to be used during an open or direct view technique and was promoted as an advanced technique to remove fat from the platysma and subdermal area of the neck 8 …”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…A tissue's native impedance, or resistance to electrical activity, is what allows the selective heating of pressures, and that it actively excises rather than avulses the fatty deposit. 52,53 Multi-institutional comparison trials 53 have shown success of the device and offer it simply as an alternative to conventional liposuction with the potential for less postoperative bruising, and in experienced hands, precise lipolysis. Despite its initial promise, there have not been additional reports or assessment of long-term outcomes using the liposhaver in the literature in the last 10 to 15 years.…”

“…3,4 With the exception of the liposhaver, the physiological base for liposuction remains the same-subcutaneous fat is avulsed into a cannula by the back and forth motion of the instrument and the negative pressure created by a suction device. 52,52 Today, the advent of the 1-, 2-, and 3-mm blunt-tipped liposuction cannulas allows for better control and precision in the art of liposculpting. Smaller cannulas do have less risk of creating contour irregularities that may be caused by larger cannula apertures, though caution must be exercised with thinner cannulas, as the risk of skin and platysmal perforation is greater.…”

“…44 The procedure involves exposing fat cells to ultrasound energy, presumably facilitating fat aspiration. 50,51 A full-body version of this technology as well as new powered liposuction cannulas have been developed and used by dermatologic surgeons. Although the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons has promoted ultrasonic liposuction, dermatologic surgeons have largely abandoned this technique.…”
