The K20 survey

Abstract: Abstract. We present the redshift distribution of a complete sample of 480 galaxies with K s < 20 distributed over two independent fields covering a total area of 52 arcmin 2 . The redshift completeness is 87% and 98% respectively with spectroscopic and high-quality and tested photometric redshifts. The redshift distribution of field galaxies has a median redshift z med ∼ 0.80, with ∼32% and ∼9% of galaxies at z > 1 and z > 1.5 respectively. A "blind" comparison is made with the predictions of a set of the mos… Show more

“…All data have fixed ¼ 1:8 except for those of Maller et al (2003), who found % 1:76, depending on scale. The lines are the evolving models of Roche et al (2003) (Cimatti et al 2002) compared with the model of Xu et al (2003). From the model we show starbursts (dashed curve), spheroids (dotted curve), and total counts (solid curve).…”

“…K20 sample. The starting sample consists of about 500 galaxies selected in the K-band from a sub-area of the Chandra Deep Field South (CDFS)/ GOODS-South and from a field around the quasar 0055-2659 [40]. Optical spectra were obtained with the ESO VLT UT1 and UT2 equipped respectively with FORS1 and FORS2.…”

“…[3] for relative references). As they appear to be actively star-forming, just like LBGs, it is interesting to assess whether these K-selected galaxies are just a special subsample (the brightest tip of the iceberg) of LBGs, or a different population.…”
