The influence of sandy clay bed material to local scour behaviour

Abstract: As a type of gate that is used to control the water level upstream, sluice gate is the gate with simple shape and outstanding ability to flush the sediment. The operation of the gate is considered an important process. The up and down movement of the gate would affect the velocity and cause local scour as the result of fluctuating rate. This research aims to assess the effects of discharge and gate-opening height variations, as well as the type of bedchannel material, on the change of depth of scour (d s ). Th… Show more

“…This simplification while neglecting the size and type of the soil sediments when estimating the scour can lead to errors in the model. It should be noted that scour is strongly related to the characteristics of the sediments (Rustiati et al, 2017). The main purpose of this study is the implementation of multi-criteria decision support methods for the assessment of a given hydraulic phenomenon.…”

“…Although the scour phenomenon is strongly influenced by sediment properties, 'The Soil', is often assumed to be reduced, and with constant granulometry (Pizarro et al 2020). Such simplifications, disregarding the sediment size and type when estimating scour, may lead to computational inaccuracies within the model (Rustiati et al 2017). Indeed, (Pandey et al 2019) performed eighty-five (85) different experiments with different pier diameters and flow rates, conducted under a variety of riverbed conditions.…”

“…It has been established that the normal functioning of water regulating structures is influenced by the stability of the channel, the velocity and turbulence of water flow and soil erosion [JONES, RICHARDSON 2004;RUSTIATI et al 2017;SHINIBAEV 2010].…”

“…The analysis shows that by the beginning of the XXI century the state of mathematical and physical modelling of the complex phenomenon of interaction of hydraulic structures with a stream and channel still requires further development [CLOPPER, LAGASSE 2011;RUSTIATI et al 2017;SHEPPARD et al 2004].…”
