This research aimed to know the implementation of character education based on the 2013 curriculum in Kupang City, Nusa Tenggara Timur. The research approach used to obtain the data was qualitative by using survey and descriptive designs. The research was conducted at SD and SMP in Kupang City of (1) SDN Osapa Kecil 2, (2) SD Inpres Osapa, (3) SDN Kelapa Lima 1, (4) SD 2 Don Bosco, ( 5) SD Don Bosco (6) SMPN 5 Kota Kupang, (7) SMPN 8 Kota Kupang. The data were collected using: (1) questionnaire, (2) document, (3) interview, and (4) observation. The research results indicated that the implementation of character education in Kupang City has been integrated as: (1) the teacher has implemented character education as stated in the lesson planning activities. (2) School culture in the effort to support the implementation of character education such as (a) discipline of school attendance, flag ceremony, school rules (b) religiously through greetings, smiles, congregational worship, (c) school programs through the socialization of character education either orally or in writing, (e) clean and healthy life in the form of cleanliness concern towards the school environment, (f) the students’ culture of queuing up for any activity performance.

The technological advances make it easy for community activities and solve existing problems. However, the reality of advances in information technology has made citizens become individualists and have not been able to resolve existing environmental problems. People become accustomed to activities and things instantly and easily so they cannot be wise towards the environment. Thus a character strengthening is needed for the community to become ecological citizenship. Character strengthening is not enough given in the school or family environment, but also in the community through the community. This research aims to describe the effort of strengthening people's environmental awareness done by an environment-based community in Surabaya. The Indonesian Green Youth Coalition is an environment-based community that provides character strengthening to the community. The focus of this research is how characters are formed in The Indonesian Green Youth Coalition, the impact of the program on the community and the obstacles faced. Strengthening the character of environmental care is carried out through several programs established by The Indonesian Green Youth Coalition. These programs have a positive impact by showing a change in behavior in everyday situations where people begin to sort out garbage and are able to process it into new items. In its implementation, The Indonesian Green Youth Coalition has the main constraints which are related to time. Nevertheless, this can be resolved through communication between members.

The purpose of this study is to: 1. Describe the understanding of the national identity of students, 2. Describe the attitude of defending the country, 3. Explain the relationship between understandings of national identity with the defending attitude of students. The study was conducted by survey method. The population of the study was students of class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Sumberlawang in the academic year 2018/2019. The research sample was taken by a random sampling technique of 60 students. The analysis technique is done by product-moment correlation analysis. The results showed that the national identity of students was moderate, while the defensive attitude of students was low. The results of correlation analysis obtained an r count of 0.488 with a significance of 0.001 <0.05. Understanding of national identity of students included in the medium category, while the attitude of defending the country included in the low category. The contribution of understanding national identity to state defense attitudes was 23.8%. The research concludes that there is a significant relationship between the understanding of national identity and the defending attitude of the XI grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sumberlawang in the 2018/2019 Academic Year. Based on the conclusions, it can be seen that an understanding of national identity can be obtained through educational activities. The responsibility of the government in developing attitudes if the country for the younger generation can be done through educational activities. For this reason, this education curriculum has become one of the mandatory materials in education in Indonesia. Teachers as curriculum implementers must understand the importance of state defense attitudes. Therefore teachers must have a nationalist and patriotic spirit so that the learning material can be more excited and can be an example for their students.
