The IDEAS project: plug & produce at shop‐floor level

Abstract: PurposeCurrent major roadmapping efforts have all clearly underlined that true industrial sustainability will require far higher levels of systems' autonomy and adaptability. In accordance with these recommendations, the Evolvable Assembly Systems (EAS) has aimed at developing such technological solutions and support mechanisms. Since its inception in 2002 as a next generation of production systems, the concept is being further developed and tested to emerge as a production system paradigm. The essence of evol… Show more

“…This ability is of high interest for modular equipment providers and has motivated recent research efforts (see as an example the IDEAS project [41]). Rapid integration also impacts commissioning directly as the very same mechanisms that support plug and produce in a generic way also support the creation of hybrid systems where simulation is integrated with the real system.…”

“…The ReBORN project [6] is also used as ground-base, particularly due to the developed software tools to retrieve and process maintenance relevant equipment status information. Additionally, the IDEAS [11] and PRIME [12] projects provided useful results related to evolvability and plug-and-produce perspectives.…”
