Abstract: Interaction of cis-acting RNA sequences with nucleocapsid proteins is one of the critical events leading to retroviral genomic RNA packaging. We have derived a potentially stable secondary structure for the packaging signal region of human immunodeficiency virus strain IIIB, using a combination of biochemical analysis and computer modelling.
