“…26 Benign adnexal tumors/hamartomas such as trichoepithelioma, folliculo-sebaceous cystic hamartoma, cylindroma, and trichodiscoma are bi-phasic lesions (epithelial and mesenchymal) that are postulated to have a stromal response which attempts to re-create the normal relationship between the adnexae (follicular, folliculo-sebaceous, or eccrine unit) and their surrounding mesenchyme. 27 In this article, we report the CD34-reactive trichodiscoma immunohistochemical profile of one case of trichodiscoma. Shea et al 9 had previously anticipated that, given the abundance of CD34 þ cells in the perifollicular stroma, trichodiscoma should be reactive for CD34.…”

“…Trichofolliculoma is a hamartomatous tumor originating from the hair follicle [3]. Meischer first described this entity in 1944 and named it trichofolliculoma [4].…”

“…In 1957, Hyman and Clayman [5] reported a similar case and named it "hair follicle nevus." Kligman and Pinkus [3], on the other hand, stated that the definition of nevus would not be an appropriate definition since this tumor shows different stages of hair follicle differentiation histopathologically, and the name "tricofolliculoma," previously made by Meischer, was accepted for this tumor. Compared to other adnexal tumors, it is observed less frequently and mostly has a characteristic appearance that facilitates diagnosis.…”

“…[3] In addition, there is a hypothesis that all epidermal and adnexal epithelia are multipotent and that BCCs arise from these epithelia; however, this is not completely elucidated. [4] Since BCC arising in the umbilicus without a hair follicle is relatively rare, we report 2 cases of umbilical BCC associated with intra- and peritumoral sweat gland structures.…”
