“…In accordance with other studies (Garfinkel et al, 1980;Mickalide & Anderson, 1985;Garner et al, 1993), the comparison between patients with the restricting type and patients with the binge eating/purging type of AN revealed a trend toward higher BMIs at referral in patients with the binge eating/purging type. It is probable that some of the young restricting patients in our study will develop the binge eating/purging type in the future.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…The frequency of suicide attempts among normal-weight bulimics is like that of underweight bulimics in the study published by Garfinkel et al (5). The high incidence of drug use and stealing among normal-weight bulimics is consistent with the findings of Pyle et al (15) and Crisp (16).…”

“…We found a slightly increased MRFDR for eating disorders (40%) among the bulimic probands as opposed to nonpsychiatric control subjects (0 %) -a finding congruent with most other controlled studies (Gershon et al 1983(Gershon et al , 1984Strober et al 1985Strober et al , 1986, as well as uncontrolled studies (Theander, 1970;Cantwell et al 1977;Halmi et al 1977;Dally & Gomez, 1979;Crisp et al 1980;Garfinkel et al 1980;Hudson et al 19836).…”
