The First Urinary Tract Infection in Male Children

Abstract: \s=b\In a prospective study of urinary tract infection in 57 boys, diagnosis in 50 patients was based on the presence of more than 105 organisms per milliliter of urine. Gram-positive cocci were more prevalent, and Escherichia coli was less prevalent than previously reported in girls. Fever and urinary tract abnormalities were frequent in boys younger than 10 years of age; less common in boys 10 to 14 years old. Excretory urography and voiding cystourethrography were performed in 30 boys. In 15, one or both sh… Show more

“…Cohen M. et al 8 in their prospective study found VUR in 10% of cases. Ginsburg CM et al 6 found VUR in 19% of cases, 13% having bilateral reflux.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…With regard to the modes of surgical intervention, the less invasive endoscopic subureteral injection technique is the preferred intervention modality for symptomatic and asymptomatic VUR, followed by open surgical options, which still represent the gold standard in terms of success 27,28,32,39,40 . In addition, the success rate of a redo‐UCN after a subureteral injection is lower than that of a redo‐UCN without prior injection 28 …”

“…According to Cohen et al25), UTI caused by E. coli was most frequently seen among boys, but the frequency of UTI caused by E. coli was significantly different between boys and girls, that is, it was 88% in girls but 62% in boys. E. coli infections accounted for 81.4% of the UTIs included in this study, and this value was similar to the values in other reports13-15, 23-28).…”
