Counterpart 14 C and 230 Th/U dating of buried peat from the Tolokonka section in the North Dvina River valley [3] has demonstrated reliability of the proposed approach for practical employment of the 230 Th/U method for establishing the chronology of the formation of swamp-lacustrine deposits with ages exceeding the capability of the 14 C technique.…”

From the bottom to the top the section is composed of (1) 2.5 m thick Middle Pleistocene alluvium; (2) Middle Weichselian deposits of fluvial origin, including organic horizons (3 m in thicness), 148 organic strata is of subaerial origin and represents a buried floodplain soil (Zaretskaya et al 2013); (3) a twofold horizon of problematic origin (7.5 m thick); proglacial LGM-lake deposits (Lysa et al 2011) or aeolian periglacial terrace (Guslitser and Duriagina 1983;Andreicheva 2011;Zaretskaya et al 2011;. Radiocarbon dates of the buried soil horizon yield the continuous accumulation of the organic matter from 39.170±260 BP (GIN-14323) to 31.200±230 BP (GIN-14321) (Zaretskaya et al 2012).…”
