“…The isochronous approximation is based on agreement with isochronous-corrected ages obtained for the same coeval samples analysed using two different analytical techniques based on (1) acidic extraction of a sample in leachate alone (L/L model), and on (2) total sample dissolution (TSD model), in order to improve the precision and reliability of the radioisotope dating (Maksimov and Kuznetsov, 2010). Details of laboratory procedures and sample processing are given in Maksimov and Kuznetsov (2010), Maksimov et al (2011), B€ orner et al (2015). Alpha-spectrometric measurements of the U and Th isotopes enabled to determine 238 U, 234 U, 232 Th, and 230 Th specific activities and their activity ratios (ARs).…”

“…Recently the 230 Th/U method was applied successfully for the first time for Neopleistocene peat gyttja dating [1,2]. Counterpart 14 C and 230 Th/U dating of buried peat from the Tolokonka section in the North Dvina River valley [3] has demonstrated reliability of the proposed approach for practical employment of the 230 Th/U method for establishing the chronology of the formation of swamp-lacustrine deposits with ages exceeding the capability of the 14 C technique.…”

“…of 13 m height is located at the right bank of Vychegda, and has been continuously studied by Guslitser and Duriagina (1983), Andreicheva (2011), Zaretskaya et al (2011, Lysa et al (2011). From the bottom to the top the section is composed of (1) 2.5 m thick Middle Pleistocene alluvium; (2) Middle Weichselian deposits of fluvial origin, including organic horizons (3 m in thicness), 148 organic strata is of subaerial origin and represents a buried floodplain soil (Zaretskaya et al 2013); (3) a twofold horizon of problematic origin (7.5 m thick); proglacial LGM-lake deposits (Lysa et al 2011) or aeolian periglacial terrace (Guslitser and Duriagina 1983;Andreicheva 2011;Zaretskaya et al 2011;. Radiocarbon dates of the buried soil horizon yield the continuous accumulation of the organic matter from 39.170±260 BP (GIN-14323) to 31.200±230 BP (GIN-14321) (Zaretskaya et al 2012).…”

“…In the middle part of the main section there is an organic-bearing horizon dated back at the middle Wiechselian ). This horizon is overlain by ~1 m layer earlier considered as diamicton (Shebotinov et al 2011;Larsen et al 2013). During our studies in 2012 we found varved clays within this "diamicton" horizon (Zaretskaya et al 2013).…”
