“…The Scz families interact less, spend more time asking questions, and ask for opinions and suggestions in a dependent manner. This dependency on the opinion of others is most characteristic of the Scz parents, and this is congruent with Cheek's findings (7, 9). The Scz child responds less to the reality demands of the TAT task, asking less and giving less when it comes to making up a family story.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…Lerner (1965) obtained no differences for mothers and fathers of normals and of two groups of schizophrenics in yielding to the other's position. Cheek (1964aCheek ( , 1964bCheek ( , 1965 found no support for the notion of the domineering "schizophrenogenic" mother. In the families of males, each member of the normal's family interacted in a more dominant way than each corresponding member of the schizophrenic's family.…”

“…The Baxter and Arthur (1964) and Farina and Dunham (1963) studies did not include control groups, but are reviewed here because they were designed to test specific points concerning premorbidity differences in Farina's (1960) study. In addition, Cheek's (1964aCheek's ( , 1964bCheek's ( , 1965 reports of her study will be reviewed. Since neither the experimental nor the control group was hospitalized at the time of data collection, the extent to which this difference may have affected her data in comparison to the data of the other studies is unknown.…”
