The EULAR Sjogren's syndrome patient reported index as an independent determinant of health-related quality of life in primary Sjogren's syndrome patients: in comparison with non-Sjogren's sicca patients

Abstract: HRQOL levels were differentially associated with clinical facets in pSS and non-SS sicca patients, although the groups had similar clinical symptoms and HRQOL reduction. Because depression and ESSPRI are major determinants of HRQOL in Korean pSS patients, ESSPRI is suggested to be disease-specific for pSS.

“… Values are the mean ± SD unless indicated otherwise. Systemic activity levels were defined according to the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) Sjögren's Syndrome Disease Activity Index (ESSDAI), as follows: low (<5), moderate , and high (≥14). The P values are for the comparison of the 3 groups (analysis of variance or Pearson chi‐square test as appropriate).…”

“…The chief treatment goal in chronic and usually non‐life‐threatening conditions such as primary SS is to improve the patient's perceived health‐related quality of life (HRQOL). HRQOL is profoundly impaired in primary SS . Therefore, the principal factors governing HRQOL impairment must be identified so that they can be specifically targeted by therapeutic interventions, to improve the patient's everyday experience.…”

“…Ocular surface disease was assessed using the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI). Fatigue was assessed using Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), and sicca symptoms were assessed according to the dryness domain of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) Sjögren's Syndrome Patient‐Reported Index (ESSPRI); disease activity was assessed using EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Disease Activity Index (ESSDAI) …”

“…Since the last few decades, original studies1517 and reviews18,19 have reported HRQoL in patients with SS. However, the relative degree of impairment in each domain differed among samples, and it was not obvious which domain of HRQoL was most negatively affected.…”
