The Effects of Substituting Dietary Soybean Meal with Maize Grain on Milk Production in Dairy Goats

Abstract: In view of better environmental sustainability, livestock diets must not exceed protein requirements, as often happens with lactating goats reared in semi-intensive systems. The aim of this experiment was to verify in real-breeding conditions the influence of two diets with different protein contents (% crude protein (CP) on dry matter (DM)): 16.0 (high-protein diet; HP) vs 12.2 (low-protein diet; LP) on milk production in dairy goats. The diets differed only in the replacement—in the LP diet—of 250 g soybean … Show more

“…Изучено влияние двух рационов с различным содержанием белка (% сырого протеина на сухое вещество) -16 % (высокобелковая диета) против 12,2 % (низкобелковая диета) на производство молока у молочных коз. Животные статистически не различались по удою и составу молока, низкобелковая диета привела к снижению экскреции азота с мочой на 28 % и стоимости корма примерно на 10 % (Rapetti L et al, 2020).…”

“…Dairy goat farming contributes significantly to the national economy of countries in Asia, especially Indonesia. The need for milk which continues to increase every year shows that dairy goat farming has the potential to be developed (Rapetti et al 2020). The Etawa Crossbreed goat is the result of crossbreeding the Etawa originating from India (Jamnapari) and a local goat from Indonesia, namely the Kacang Goat which resembles the Etawa goat but is smaller in size (Suranindyah et al 2018).…”

“…There are consumers who deliberately choose goat's milk despite the high availability of cow's milk because of goat's milk are perceived to have more benefits than cow's milk. In developed countries, dairy goats have received an increased interest economically because of the relatively low investment costs, its efficiency in terms of milk yield per unit of feed intake, and the growing appreciation of goats' cheese by consumers (Rapetti et al, 2020). This condition is an opportunity for goat breeders to further develop their business in Indonesia (Directorate General of Agro and Chemical Industry, 2009).…”
