“…However, this is far from the truth. Several studies to date have shown that cultural values and national cultures play an important role in how people choose and make use of IT, from using online social networks to smartphone devices and applications (e.g., Chu et al 2019 ; George et al 2018 ; Gupta et al 2019a ). “…Individualists, by comparison, have loose ties with others and are universalistic in nature. They value their personal freedom and are not obligated to follow others in society (George et al 2018 ). Though in this study, we apply IND-COL at a country-level, other examples of collectivist ingroups include a tribe, village, religious community, student body, and workgroup (Triandis 1996 ).…”

“…Hoehle et al ( 2015 ) investigated the effects of cultural values on individuals’ continued intention to use mobile applications. George et al ( 2018 ) examined the impact of the interaction between cultural values and different communication media on individuals’ ability to detect deception successfully. Moreover, a recent study has suggested that national cultural values may affect the extent to which countries utilize non-pharmaceutical technological interventions (NPTI) in mitigating the spread of coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic (Gupta et al, 2021 ).…”
