The Effect of Problem Based Learning Model on Student Mathematics Learning Outcomes Viewed from Critical Thinking Skills

Abstract: This study aims to determine the effect of applying problem based learning model on students' mathematics learning outcomes viewed from critical thinking skills of fifth grade students of the private primary school in the Surakarta region. This research is an experimental research using sample of 309 students consisting of experimental class of 153 students and control class of 156 students. Method of data analysis using Two-Way Anova. Results of this study indicate (1) There are significant differences in mat… Show more

“…By this way, researchers found out many different results about effectiveness. Researching the effect of methods with experimental studies is important for learning the success of mathematics (Mulyanto, Gunarhadi & Indriayu, 2018). But, the main question of this study is, what the real effectiveness level of multiple representation based instruction is on mathematical achievement.…”

“…Strategies for questions asked by teachers in discussions and play roles in real-life problem solving very well for developing critical thinking (Abrami, et al, 2015). Problem-based learning affects students' mathematical thinking skills (Mulyanto et al, 2018). At the same time, Paul and Elder (2019) suggest Problem Posing as an alternative to improving critical thinking.…”

“…In general, their research finding is the same. The finding was that PBL effectively improves students' critical thinking (Li & Chen, 2019;Kong, Qin, Zhou, Mou, & Gao, 2004;Gholami, Moghadam, Mohammadipoor, Tarahi, Pour, 2016;Ismail, Harun, Zakaria, & Salleh, 2018;Şendağ, & Odabaşı, 2009;Hong, & Yu, 2017;Choi, Lindquist, & Song, 2014;Mulyanto, Gunarhadi, & Indriayu, 2018;Masek, & Yamin, 201;and EL-Shaer & Gaber, 2014) This study was intended to describe the effectiveness of applying the Problem Based Learning Model in improving critical thinking skill and student learning outcome at Primary Education-Teacher Department (PGSD) of Bung Hatta University.…”
