“…Methods for photosynthesis – irradiance ( P–E ) experiment followed those of previous studies (Fujimoto et al ; Vo et al ; Terada et al ,). Seaweed samples were subjected to nine irradiance levels (0, 30, 60, 100, 150, 200, 250, 500 and 1000 μmol photons m − 2 s −1 ) with five replicates, at a fixed temperature of 26°C.…”

“…F v /F m of the alga were measured from 8 to 38°C in 2°C increments, with a Maxi Imaging‐PAM (Heinz Walz GmbH, Effeltrich, Germany), as described in previous studies (Fujimoto et al ; Vo et al ; Terada et al ,). Initially, 6–8 cm‐long sections of the thalli of each species were prepared and dark‐acclimated overnight in the incubator at 26°C.…”

“…The annual harvests of G. acerosa in the Gulf of Mannar in 2003–2012 yielded 1100–1500 t resulting in 50–90 t of agar (Ganesan et al 2014). G. acerosa is also abundant in areas of the Philippines (Rollon et al 2003) and Thailand (Fujimoto et al 2014), but we were not able to gather any information on a putative harvest. As well, relevant amounts of G. latifolium have been harvested in Indonesia (Soegiarto 1990), picked by hand either at low tide or by snorkeling in shallow waters, but we did not find any time series data on annual landings.…”
