The effect ofRhazya strictaaqueous leaves extract on MRSA genotypes in Jeddah province

Abstract: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterium that is resistant to a large group of beta-lactam antibiotics. Rhazya stricta is a local shrub that grows naturally as a normal flora and is used as a medicinal plant by several nations for a lot of infectious diseases, caused by microorganisms. Therefore, the effect of the plant against different genotypes of methicillinresistant S. aureus was tested in the present study. Molecular identification was done for the medical sampling of 44 MRSA and… Show more

“…Rhazya stricta belongs to the family of Apocynaceae and is known locally as "harmal." It has traditionally been used to treat microbial infections, sore throat, diabetes mellitus, and certain inflammatory conditions such as rheumatism and allergies [7,24,25]. Previous phytochemical studies on R. stricta have shown the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, peptides, and triterpenes [26].…”

“…Although numerous plant natural products have been remarkably shown to be effective treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, previously classified as noncurable diseases [15][16][17], there are still a large number of plants in ecologically diverse areas such as Saudi Arabia that have not yet been discovered for their potential therapeutic efficacy. The harsh environmental conditions in Saudi Arabia, such as heat and lack of water, force the plants to evolve and develop "survival molecules" and metabolites [18].…”
